In preparation for our upcoming topic, ‘I Have a Dream’, our pupils proudly completed the Warwickshire Junior Police Academy for the third consecutive year, led by PC Fenton and PSCO Jackson. This immersive experience not only deepened pupils’ understanding of law enforcement but also strengthened their sense of responsibility and community.
Throughout the week, children explored the many vital roles within the police force and took part in a range of exciting, hands-on activities, including:
- Taking their own fingerprints
- Using police radios and the phonetic alphabet to communicate with Control
- Interrogating a suspect and conducting a safe car search for stolen goods
- Catching a suspected thief and delivering the official police caution
- Learning life-saving first aid skills such as CPR, the recovery position, and seizure response
- Participating in daily parades and uniform inspections
- Testing their fitness with the bleep test (did you know officers must reach level 6 or above?)
- Watching a police dog in action during a substance search
- Meeting a sergeant and learning about the impact of hate crime through Sophie Lancaster’s story
- Practising safe baton use
- Celebrating their achievements at a special passing-out ceremony with family
We had an incredible week of enriched learning, building valuable knowledge and strong connections with our local police force. These partnerships play a vital role in helping keep our children safe as they grow and navigate new challenges.
