ART & DESIGN
Every Child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up - Pablo Picasso
Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works - Steve Jobs
At Wolston St Margaret's, Art and Design is a way for children to express themselves creatively, and to develop their individuality. Art gives children of all abilities the opportunity to plan, design and create something unique using a range of media. It offers a chance for reflection and self expression, is a medium through which our children are challenged physically, emotionally and intellectually and can suit all learning styles. Art also offers our children the opportunity to explore other cult
ures through the study and appreciation of art and design from around the world.

ART & DESIGN LEARNING LEAFLETS
Learning Leaflets include key vocabulary with definitions, dates and timelines, maps, significant individuals and other contextual knowledge along with key skills the children will need to demonstrate. We expect the majority of children to know the information on the learning leaflet by the end of the unit of work and be able to recall key detail.
The facts on the Learning Leaflet are the crystallised, necessary information about a topic but they don't represent the topic in its entirety and many children will have a far deeper understanding and be able to discuss and elaborate much further.
